D-Day Enhanced – our next major PSVR2 game

With D-Day enhanced (DDE), we’re going back to one of our best games and bringing it to PSVR2 to take advantage of improved visual capabilities and the new features that PSVR2 offers.

When it first launched, D-Day’s 32 player matches were incredibly fun and chaotic. We’re planning to bring even more players into the mix with matches supporting 48 and possibly 64 players to truly take advantage of the large scale maps.

One aspect of D-Day that we never fully implemented was spatialized audio. With D-Day Enhanced, we’re taking advantage of the PS5’s audio capabilities to bring true spatialized audio to the game. You’ll be able to intuitively know where players are just by the sound of their weapons.

We’re also going to add the option for manual reloading for players who really want the added immersion of realistic weapon handling. We’re looking to tune this so that manual reloading can be faster than automatic but will take some practice to become that proficient.

One aspect of D-Day that we felt was missing was the use of vehicles. We’ve been making a number of enhancements to the maps and one focus of that is to make maps where vehicles are much easier to use. Hopefully this along with making vehicles take less damage from bullets (and hence not explode frequently) will allow vehicles to become a larger part of the gameplay.

The video footage we’ve made so far simply doesn’t capture the visual upgrades we’ve made so far so we’re going to hold off showing any footage at the moment. After playing D-Day Enhanced on PSVR for the past few weeks, I put on the original D-Day on PSVR to take some videos for comparison. When I first jumped into a match on PSVR, my first impression was ‘how did we play like this’. The clarity of PSVR2 is such an improvement and I think everyone is going to be thrilled with the upgrade it offers.

In the coming weeks, we’ll start showing off some footage as we make further enhancements and have some footage that hopefully shows of how great the game truly looks on PSVR2.

When D-Day Enhanced launches for PS VR2, the game will be a free upgrade for owners of the original PS4 version. Unfortunately, cross play with PS4 players will not be feasible due mainly to changes in the maps and the Battle Royale mode that PSVR1 wouldn’t be able to handle. As we get closer to being release ready, we’ll look at the announced release schedule of games and try to pick a date that’s best.
